Privacy notice

Rose Tinted Roads is the data controller for the information described below. This notice explains what we collect from riders, why we hold it, and how you can get it back or get rid of it.

Last updated 22 August 2026

What we collect

  • Account details — your email address and an encrypted login session. If you sign in with Google we receive your email address and basic profile from Google.
  • Ride journal — the dates, ratings, feelings and notes you record against rides you've ridden.
  • Road submissions — the road details, photos, mood tags and the name and email you give us when recommending a road.
  • On-device preferences — your rider profile, saved rides and onboarding answers are kept in your browser's local storage on your own device.

We do not collect location tracking data, and we do not run advertising or third-party analytics trackers.

Why we hold it and our lawful basis

  • To run your account — necessary to perform the service you asked for (contract).
  • To store your ride journal and saved rides — contract, at your request.
  • To review and publish road submissions — our legitimate interest in curating quality rides, and your consent when you choose to submit.
  • To keep the service secure and working — legitimate interest.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your data. It's processed on our behalf by our hosting and database provider, which stores the site, accounts, journal entries and uploaded photos. Map tiles on ride pages are served by OpenStreetMap, which will see your IP address when a map loads.

How long we keep it

Account details, journal entries and saved rides are kept while your account is open, and removed when you delete your account. Roads that have been reviewed and published stay on the site as part of the curated collection, but the submitter's name and email are removed if you delete your account.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, object to or restrict how we use it, and ask us to transfer it. Two of those are built in: signed-in riders can export or delete everything from the profile page.

For anything else, email roads@rosetintedmedia.co.uk. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

Cookies and browser storage

We only use storage that's essential to run the site. See the cookies page for the detail.
